Png transparency and ie6

png transparency fix for ie6

So I downloaded a few of png’s to use in a site for a client.
The job was almost done and I had sent him a preview to look over, when a couple of issues came up. He said some of my graphics looked odd.
It was an ie6 situation, and to be honest I hadn’t tested back that far, but my luck the client was still using this old browser.
Ok so i thought i’d find a copy of ie6 and install it along side opera, firefox etc, but hey it can’t be done. (correct me if I am wrong on this), but newer versions overwrite older so this method of testing wasn’t possible. Anyway a google later I found Microsoft expression web, a way to test how your design will render in ie6 and ie7, only a preview version and soon to become obsolete on my system.
So checking previous sites a couple of problems came up, one easily sorted using display:inline to keep floated elements in check, the other being the ugly background appearing when an image should render with none. I found solutions all over, most worked a little, but were quirky,
Enter DD_belatedPNG by Drew Diller, I haven’t tested it extensively, but so far all is good.

So I just wanted to spread the word from my little corner.

The html

<!--[if IE 6]> <script src="DD_belatedPNG.js"></script> <script> /* EXAMPLE */ DD_belatedPNG.fix('#logo, #strap, #header, #nav '); /* string argument can be any CSS selector */ /* .png_bg example is unnecessary */ /* change it to what suits you! */ </script> <![endif]--> </head> <body> <div id="wrapper"> <div id="top"> <div id="logo"></div><div id="strap"></div> </div> <div id="nav"></div> <div id="header"> <div id="header_title"> <h2>Welcome to My new site</h2> </div> </div>

So that’s it upload the javascript replace your divs or classes. Mine are all background on the style sheet.

The css

#header { width:940px; height:106px; margin-top:20px; background:transparent url(img/header_back1.1.png) no-repeat; } #nav { height:52px; width:940px; background:transparent url(img/nav_back1.png) no-repeat; } #logo { width:162px; height:106px; float:left; display:inline; background:transparent url(img/test.png) no-repeat;} #strap { width:400px; height:33px; margin:60px 0 0 20px; float:left; display:inline; background:transparent url(img/print1.png) no-repeat; }

I used it as is and it worked a dream. Cheers..
Will be playing with it some more.
Till next time.. Bye

RSS

I have been thinking about bringing syndicated content here for a while,
not specifically here, you know, just to make it work for the purposes of exploration.
So here we have a rss syndicated desert desert page, (who said that), external from my blog, with my blog feed brought to display.
It is the work of dynamic drive
A useful resource.

Also content relevant to a build in example2 office of fair trading.
Who regulates the regulators, an old but fair question.
I think i will try to pull content from here, to my static home page, using the methods descibed in the dynamic tutorial.
To be fair I think the tutorial misses some elements in it’s description of the deployment of the script and its various parts.

Following intuition I got it working thus far, I am looking forward to the next phase.

Balance, to achieve..
A man hole cover is not a grid, Or is it?
…And the best way to make a point is?
The essentail debate, leading to a logical, beyond any kind of retort conclusion.

Follow the google

It’s like skynet.
Only kidding
But you know about complexities, and the ever constant twisty time.
Memory and organization is the key. Connectivity.

And

Memory

is stored.

I am sure it’s not only me, but it’s definitely time i bought some glasses,
You should have been privy to what I was going to write.

What is on the dslr?

God, Christianity and the lobotomy project.

Revelation 21

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

I am no theologian, and I am sure this question has been asked many times before, but i’m going to get it down anyway.
Assuming that i believed my immortal soul would ascend to heaven at the time of my death, had I met the strict entry criteria.
Assuming also those that hadn’t would go to the sulphurous fire pits of hell, and face ‘eternal torment’.

About Me now..

Upon finding myself in this paradise I would bask in the glow of God and feel good. Possibly for a few million years, not such a long time in all eternity. I would live in one of his many mansions, might have a couple to allow for short breaks, to holiday where the illuminating rays are a little dimmer.

I would wander around, maybe converse with his Seraphim, chat with his Cherubim, I would eventually seek out family and friends, we’d get together, have a bbq talk about old times in this new order. Reminiscing, we’d remember John, and Sue and my Dad and Mum, my friends, more than half the population of the world, and comment how they failed to make the grade, for they had no faith, or they did not believe.

Have we all, the ascended ones been lobotomized, has our memory been wiped, how else could we not feel a little sad for all those billions of lost souls.

kupier belt

Object originated from outside the solar system

And where is the object heading?

Volatiles tangled in a delightfully incomprehensible dance, balanced, inexorably connected, to wit the salt of Amun.

Fly me to the moon in your rocket airplane..

Kupier

The Kuiper belt (pronounced /ˈkaɪpɚ/, to rhyme with “viper”), sometimes called the Edgeworth-Kuiper belt, is a region of the Solar System beyond the planets extending from the orbit of Neptune (at 30 AU) to approximately 55 AU from the Sun. It is similar to the asteroid belt, although it is far larger; 20 times as wide and 20–200 times as massive. Like the asteroid belt, it consists mainly of small bodies (remnants from the Solar System’s formation). It is home to at least two dwarf planets – Pluto and Makemake. But while the asteroid belt is composed primarily of rock and metal, the Kuiper belt objects are composed largely of frozen volatiles (dubbed “ices”), such as methane, ammonia and water.

Amun

Amun (also spelled Amon, Amoun, Amen, and rarely Imen, Greek Ἄμμων Ammon, and Ἅμμων Hammon, reconstructed Egyptian Yamānu) was the name of a deity, in Egyptian mythology, who gradually rose to become one of the most important deities in Ancient Egypt, before fading into obscurity.

Amun’s name is first recorded in Egyptian as ỉmn, meaning “The hidden (one)”. (Hence the connection to the mysterious kupier belt.)

Twirling Girl

Logical or Poetic

I came across this story via the on-line new scientist blog.

I initially see the girl spinning anti-clockwise, but after watching for a while she will change direction of spin.
Very strange. The gif image is made up of 34 frames, and when watched frame by frame the image is indeed set in an anti-clockwise direction. So what is going on.
